Sticky, tarry dark brownish/green, black poop at 7 months?

My DD has been having sticky tarry dark brownish/green, black poop for the past week. Is this normal? We did give her some cherry juice to drink last week so could that be it?

  • Anytime you have poop that is black, white, or red, it's not normal and you should call the doctor.

  • Yep, call the doctor.

From Toddler 411 section on Red Flags for worrisome poops:

"Black, tarry poop can be a sign of bleeding in the upper part of the intestinal tract....It can indicate irritation and inflammation of the intestines. Your doctor will do a test to check for blood in the poop. Non serious reasons for black (but not tarry) poop are iron supplements and Pepto-Bismol use"
