On a scale of one to ten,

How chemically processed is a fruit roll up? Is it one of those things that probably contains a beaver's anal gland, or don't I want to know?

dd 2 came home from her friends chewing on one.

Why not make your own (let the kids help)?

    Fruit Leather

1 cup (250 ml) fresh fruit such as peaches, pears,
    pineapple, cherries, plums, or strawberries
    1 cup (250 ml) applesauce
    Vegetable oil or cooking spray

Peel the pears, peaches, and pineapple if using. Remove pits and seeds from all, and cut into chunks. Combine with the applesauce in an electric food processor or blender and puree until smooth. Spread the puree on a lightly oiled baking sheet and place in a preheated 400F (200C) oven. Immediately reduce the temperature to 200F (90C) and bake for 2 to 3 hours, until the puree is no longer sticky and can be peeled from the baking sheet. Cool and store in an airtight container or plastic bag.

  • It's pretty much just sugar, HFCS, sugar, artificial dyes, mom used to let us eat them but I've only bought them twice in my kids' lives - and they weren't too crazy about them.

  • don't know what's in it, but natural fruit leather is yuck! I like them, but only once in a while, and the fruit by the foot or gushers.

  • Oh, I love natural fruit leather! The raspberry is yum!! Fruit rollups are mostly sugar and dye. Do they even have real fruit in them?
