How would you debate if your public school is asking parents for cash to cover summer school due to the lack of funds?

Would do give the cash right away or would you deal with bureaucracy?

  • Good question! Our school canceled summer school due the state cutbacks. However, I would contribute a reasonable amount in order for my kid to attend. I wouldn't give it upfront but see what others are doing and follow. Why give more now while others don't give at all.

  • If my kid doesn't need summer school I sure don't need to pay for it.
If your child needs summer school you should have to pay for it . Why on earth is that wrong?

  • For SUMMER school? I have no problem with the parents paying for that.

  • I think summer school is not necessary.
It is there for those who did poorly during the year and those who want to get ahead. I think if a parent sees fit for their child to attend for either reason then if needed they should pay if asked. I personally would pay if I had to.

  • "This is why the POOR are more adversly affected...They are NOT getting the same education"

Why the need for summer school in the first place? If students did their jobs DURING the school year, they wouldn't have to afford summer school and be "adversly affected"!!!

  • Haha, my son had to go to summer school and I had to pay $200.00 for him to go.

  • is it for students who need to go to summer school to make up grades? then they should pay

Answer by shay1130 at 12:28 PM on Jul. 26, 2010

  • That's easy. If your child needs to go to summer school, you pay for it. If your child doesn't , you don't.

  • I would pay. My child had 180 days to make the grade. I had 180 days to encourage, push, and be on top of it. I would pay or let my child repeat the grade.
