13 story mosque near ground zero?

The org. planning this $100 million dollar mosque is called the Cordoba initiative. The moaque is to be called the Cordoba House. www.cordobaintiative.org/?q=content/cordoba-house-new-york-city.com

Where did the name come from? The Cordoba region of Spain. When the muslims conquered spain they took a huge Christian cathedral and turned it into the Cordoba mosque. So the very group planning this mosque near ground zero is named after a mosque built at the scene of a previous muslim conquest.
other such mosques:
When muslims they built the Al-Aqsa mosque
When muslims conquered Constantinople (now Istanbul) they trandformed the St. Sophia Basillica into a mosque
This mosque is planned to be opened on,of all days,Sept.11,2011.Nice timing hm? This will serve as a symbol of supremacy over NY and America.

  • This is SOO not cool! That would be like us building a giant statue of an American Soldier in uniform in Japan where we dropped a bomb on them. This so wrong!

What a racist, bigoted pile o hate you're spewing there. Just once I'd like someone to tell me exactly how a mosque in Manhattan is an insult to the victims when some of the VICTIMS were Muslim? Bunch of narrowminded bigoted extremists running around here. Not to mention hypocritical - don't hear any of the people whining about this mosque insisting their church collection plate be off limits to the klan members in the congregation, but now suddenly this entire project is evil because of the off chance that one contributor in each 1000 contributors might have an extremist tie?

  • It is a Mosque. This is not a Christianity only country. Muslims lost life as well. They can worship Allah the same as you can go to your church and worship, Christians killed off many folks back in the day too. Should the Indians complain everytime a person of European descent builds a place of worship or owns land?

  • an American Soldier in uniform

A statue of a soldier isn't a place of worship. A mosque is where people go to pray. To God. The same God of the Jews and the Christians. And the people building it didn't do the atrocity of 9-11.

  • I don't agree with it, either. I have nothing against muslims (don't believe the same, but have nothing against the people in general), but I don't think it's right to use a site of a major tragedy to put up a place of worship of any sort. I wouldn't want to attend a church there. I think there should be a memorial, and possibly a rebuilding. And it should be a governmental vote (since the government is supposed to represent the whole country), not a single group deciding what should go there.

  • anon, what's your source for that date?

I just googled some of the phrases in the OP. That is a direct copy and paste of some idjit's comments on a HuffPo article. It's the only other place it appears online. Either OP just directly copied it from there....orrrrr, OP is the same guy.
