Does anybody know how long you get in jail for stealing a car?

Tried googling for my state (SC) but didnt find much. Just a round about figure would be nice.

  • I'm not sure. A friend of mine stole a car and wrecked it when he was 16. He was sent to a place for juveniles until he turned 18.

  • It all depends. First he has to be convicted. So he could be in jail until court if he doesn't bond out. Then again he could plea down to a lesser charge but I'll see if I can find out what he could possibly get if the charge holds.

  • Looks to be 5-10 yrs depending on the value of the vehicle according to Chapter 13 Section 16 of the SC statutes

  • You can always call his attorney's office, the court clerk or the state's Prosecuting Attorney to verify

  • My bil is 19 and stole his dads 2005 Dodge Truck. His bond is $80 but nobody is paying for him to get out. I really dont know how he could plead to a lesser charge because he without a doubt stole it while his dad was at work and hid it in the woods so he could pick his gf up from work.
