BRAT diet?

My son has had diarrhea for the past 3 days, with no other symptoms. His doctor recommended the B.R.A.T diet, but it seems to me like applesauce would make him poop even more. Does this diet help? Any other suggestions?

  • Applesauce is good. But my doctor doesn't recommend the rice. He says even that is a little too much for digestion if there has been a virus. He suggests white bread instead.

  • Apples will not make him poop more. In fact, they are one of the first things you should take out of your diet if you're constipated.

If you're worried about him losing liquids, I'd give him pedialyte too.

  • Well, I got him Yo baby, white bread for toast, bananas, and no sugar added applesauce. He's eating toast and bananas now, so we'll see, lol.

  • I think I may say away from the YoBaby because of the dairy content but if it works for you-let us know-always good to have foods they can eat when they are sick. I am a firm believer in BRAT-always worked for my boys.
