Childs first Dentist visit?

My 19 month old has a MEAN underbite! You cant really see it unless he's cheesin though! But its wearing away the enamel on his top teeth, i guess where they rub together!? How old is a child when you take em to start getting cleanings and such? I know i wont be able to do anything for the underbite until he gets permenant teeth!

  • I took my son in at 12 months. Thats when my pedi told me to. They just checked his teeth and brushed them good. They said they like to see them this early. If hes has some enamel issues i would take him in. You dont want it to get worse if they can do something to help now.

  • Check with the dentist in your area. Sometimes they won't take them till a certain age unless there is something big wrong.

  • Technically, they should start when they start getting teeth. But, most take them starting at about a year. The sooner you take them, the sooner they get used to it. If nothing else, call your dentist and ask them when they'd like to see him.
