  • Yes & no. Ok Galveston is not a beautiful beach like florida or south Padre but it is still a very nice place to go. Moody Gardens and Schilleterban water park are there. Another beach would be Kemah its about an hour or so from Houston but is has a boardwalk area where your son can feed the fish directly under the deck & a roller coaster. Both has plenty of good restaurants and tourist attractions so the choice is yours. Have Fun!!

  • Galveston. It has been messed up for a long time. I was getting oil balls on my feet back in the '80's! Than Ike came along and wrecked the whole island. Much has been done to rebuild, but it is not the same.

  • Oh the BP oil is not affecting either one that i have heard but as the other poster ststed Galveston periodically has tar ball problems from a previous oil spill many many years back. Yet i have been going to that beach for over 20 years and not once have i seen a tar ball or had any ill effects from going in the water.

  • no swimming at kemah..and I thout it was a touristy rip off! moody gardens was awesome and I would LOVE to check out the Schlitterbahn. Galveston was great but it was before the Hurricane. food- Taco cabana or anything with a "pappa' in it !!

  • Believe me, the seaweed is worse than the oil ever was. You can check out the beach and stop if you want. Kemah IS good if you want the amusement park atmosphere. You have to pay to park but there is plenty to do. They have bands during the day, shops to check out and the kids can play in the splash fountain. There is a huge cigg boat you can go out into the bay on if you want to pay for that. Great Seafood (a bit pricey) but there are hamburger joints around T-Bone Toms is excellent for BBQ and burgers as well as other stuff. Do Go to moody gardens. It is in Galveston. Butterfly garden, homemade beach, Movie theater. Lots of fun there. Schlitterbahnn is also in Galveston . Lots of fun!
