  • My son was diagnosed at 17 weeks gestation via an amnio. It was verified at birth using karyotyping.

  • You would know almost before birth and most definitely at birth. They would notice when they were wiping the baby off and Apgar testing. Between the eye folds, the lines of the hands and the flexibility....they would just know.

  • I do NOT have a child with down syndrome but it is my understanding that this is diagnosed at birth.

  • I don't have first hand experience, but I'm pretty sure it's at birth, they either are down syndrome or they're not, they don't gradually become down syndrome. They may become mentally retarded later due to certain disorders but that would not be down syndrome.

  • they usually can tell before birth. sometimes doctors can be wrong but often they can tell
