My son was referred to see a Neurologist. What are the things that we should expect to happen on our first visit to a Neurologist?

Do neurologist send lab work, x-ray etc?

  • Doing labs, etc. will depend on why your child was referred and whether or not the neuro wants to do further investigations beyond the basic neuro exam. During the neuro exam, the doctor will observe your son's movements & behaviors and, if he's old enough, ask him some questions. The doctor will do the regular doctor things, too, like listen to his heart & lungs, etc. There will probably be a ton of paperwork to fill out & questions to answer, too, about what your concerns are, his medical history, why your child was referred, what your son's developmental history has been, etc.

  • no labs or xrays MRI and EEG
but they should get most of what they need to know on a good head to toe neuro check (cranial nerves DTRs) stuff like that
