I heard a commercial on the radio today ...

I was planning on making my daughter's first dentist appointment soon.
Should she have gone to the dentist before now? She's 14 months old.
The commercial said a child should have their first dentist appointment before their first birthday.
When did you first take your kids to the dentist?

  • That is insane!

and do not let them xray your baby.. unless they find a reason on physical exam xrays are un necessary radiation

  • when he was starting preschool ..age 3. The only reason a child should go before then is if there is something wrong with their teeth. Like if you let them drink a bottle while sleeping and they get tooth decay

  • I took my son as soon as he got his first tooth to make sure everything was healthy and to learn how to properly clean an infant's teeth.

  • @MERLN the radiation and all was what I was worried about. I always thought they didn't need to go until around 2 or 3.
@shay DD took a bottle to bed the first two time she was learning to fall asleep on her own .. now she doesn't want it at all. So, I don't have to worry about the tooth decay.
I brush her teeth all the time and she loves it.

  • I took her on her third birthday. The kid dentists here don't see kids sooner than that unless there's a major problem.

  • My pediatrician never told me I should take him before he was a year. He said to introduce the toothbrush at a year and help them learn to brush their teeth, but he never mentioned the dentist. My son's Pediatrician is really good and really thorough, so he would've mentioned it if it were neccissary.

  • I love my ped .. he never mentioned it to me either. he asked if i was brushing her teeth (i am) and he said to continue that .. he's looked at her teeth and said her teeth look great.
i was just a little confused when i heard that commercial.
this is my first baby - if you haven't noticed - lol.
    thanks for all the advice.

  • The Dentists here will not see them before 3. Even the Pediatric ones.
