Is it ok to allow a 3 yr old girl to dress herself, even though you can plainly see they do not match?

See she is lil miss Diva. She will pick plaid pants shorts, or skirts and match them with stripes shirts and even funkier socks.

  • Absoutely! She needs to feel like she is accomplishing something on her own. If you want it to match, lay out some options for her to pick from. Then, she will still feel like she did it herself. But, really...who cares if it all matches. It's cute that she wants to do it herself.

  • i probably wouldnt. i think if you start giving her that freedom too early she'll be dressing stupidly when older too.

  • of course it's okay. It's how they learn and express themselves. We joke about how our 7yo's style of dress is "clown chic". Ever since she was a toddler she has picked horribly clashing outfits. Only recently has her outfits started to match in color tones and patterns. Now her 4yo has adopted her "style". She thinks anything with stripes matches even if they are horrible color combinations. I let her wear whatever she wants.

  • It's adorable! My girl has been dressing herself since she was 18 months. She only chose to match about a year ago. We just make sure what she wears is weather appropriate and covers everything it needs to. There's nothing wrong with mismatched clothes. It's just her style!

  • I think that it's fine if they are going to be in the house or at someone you know's house. It wil teach her independence and ive her a sense of pride by doing something themselves.
