What age did your kids clean themselves after using the toilet??

I have a 26 month old who is day time potty trained, she still has the occasional accident, but basically totally trained during the day. Anyhow, point being she is VERY interested in wiping herself after she is done, which is fine I've always let her, but now she is getting irritated when I try to "help her" after she does it herself. She yells at me, "My turn, mommy!!" LOL So I'm just wondering how long it takes them to be able to wipe themselves and actually be clean...

Thanks!

  • My oldest wanted help until he went to nursery school. My youngest wanted to do it himself right from the start! So we had him show us how he would do it (wanted to be like daddy!) and we let him. He was very proud and there was enough opportunity at bathtime, pool time, etc to check if he is doing OK. And he always did fine!

  • My 2 1/2 year old likes to wipe himself, but I still do it after him always. He usually barely wipes anything and leaves half a square of toilet in his butt. heh. I think we have a while to go before he can independently wipe.

  • When they were out of diapers.

I checked them then after a week or two they were on there own. Sometimes you get poo poo stains but rarely that is how they learn, if they don't need a diaper they don't need a person wiping there butt.

    Good luck

  • She hasn't quite figure out how to wipe her butt yet, I'm thinking more along the lines of when she goes potty.. She seems to do a pretty good job, but I can't help but think she just isn't clean enough..

  • My 3.5yo can whip but she is so sensitive down there that if she wipes even 1 time not good enough she gets a bad rash down there. so we still have to do it for her..
