American identity versus socialism

I appreciate the freedom to question (down to the detail), and how it fine-tunes the American way of thinking. I appreciate the American sense of enterprise, and not just meaning business. I am first born natural citizen. So I am really sensitive to the differences of the American mindset as compared to those from a socialist or communistic country. I believe that the American identity is too precious to give up in return of socialism.
For those who approve of socialism in the U.S., how would you interpret our sense of freedom in exchange for socialism?

  • akin the Democratic Congress will not realise this. If you are paying attention all of the democrates are now talking like socialists, the Republican party sounds like the Dems did 30 years ago, and there are different 3rd parties steping into where the Republican party use to be. This is the unfortunate truth, and untill we get back to more than 2 political parties controlling the country, we will be having this problem.

  • The current $850 billion dollar bailout under the current Republican Presidency is closer to Socialism than anything that Obama has proposed. Our government has been giving out tax breaks, waivers, and allowing loops holes in the tax law to help the already rich corporations get richer. They are using our money to do this? And they don't listen to the American public (middle class) at all. They do what they want and spend spend spend...

  • The bailout is communism. Government control of banks and mortgage lenders is communism. The Socialist Party USA is AGAINST the bailout.
