baby safe paint

i have a 2 year old son who like most kids his age puts thing in his mouth some time. and yesterday i picked up a new toy for him that needs a little work its a spring bouncing horse. the hole thing really needs paint but its plastic and i know there's paints for that but is it safe for kids. or is there one kind that's safer than other? please help I'd love to make this a wonderful family toy to pass down though the kids.

  • Plastic can be tricky. If it doesn't have enough of what they call tooth it will peel. So the area you need to paint you will have to rough up the area where the paint is to be applied. Then as suggested go to the hardware store and let them know you are painting a plastic outdoor item for a child. I know they have spray paint. They will also have a sealer that is child safe be sure to seal your project when you get done. After all you don't want it to fade or peel after all that hard work.

  • Best recommendation.... is looking and asking paint stores for baby safe paint, asking for non-toxic paint. There's paint that is safe to paint cribs with... I'm guessing that'd be the same paint you may be seeking. Just call a local paint retailer. :D
