  • 7 months is on the early side for crawling. The average age for crawling is 8-9 months with a WIDE variation. Some babies don't crawl until close to a year while others never crawl at all! They just go right to walking.

To encourage your babies motor skills, have them spend lots of time on the floor exploring their world. Place toys around to stimulate their interest. Do lots of tummy time. Other than that, they will do it on their own time! Enjoy the time now with a baby that is not mobile. Once they are mobile, it's ALL over Mama ;-)

  • No, but how fat are you talking?! You can put favorite toys just past her reach to encourage her to inch her way over to them or to get to standing.

  • Just give baby plenty of tummy time, and don't be surprised if it looks like they're not even close, and then suddenly take off.

  • Some babies skip crawling... Mine preferred standing then started walkin at 9mos! I tried helping her onto her hands and knees, putting toys in front of her, helping her move in a crawling motion... But she preferred to cruise at that time! Then one day she let go of the couch and walked across the living room to the tv! And no, being fat or chunky has nothing to do with it!

  • Tummy time plus a toy just out of reach. Especially a favorite toy. Yes, being large can hinder crawling. Our first did not want to bend at the hips. We worked on an exercise/stability ball with him holding him at the thighs so he would push up and gain more strength. Also try bending your baby at the hips to put him/her up on all 4's. Put your leg out behind so they can push off with thier feet on your leg. I hope that made sense... :)

  • You can give tummy time, but don't sweat the crawling. They don't NEED to crawl...and those who don't tend to walk sooner.

Mine absolutely refused tummy time, so we skipped it. He was walking before all his crawling agemates. Of course, that in itself isn't necessarily a good thing..there's a lot to be said for infant immobility! **grin**

  • My daughter didn't crawl until 9 1/2 months, and was walking within a month. My son, crawling at 11 months and walking at 14 mos. 7 months is early IMO. And, as previously stated, some babies just don't crawl. It's OK if they don't.
