People strung "bump" all throughout this post I was reading. What does it mean?

  • In a group post it is a way to keep the post at the top of the forum, since the post with the most recent activity is on top. it can also be used, as here in answers, to get more replies for a post when someone doesn't have much to offer themselves or to show support. Finally it can be used to mark a post to come back to later, since bumping a post will put it under the my replies link.

In answers it works as the PP said. Questions with the most bumps show at the top of the bumped list on the main answers page.
