  • because a lot of important people have a lot of crazy money in oil

Answer by lovinangels at 1:22 AM on Jul. 29, 2010

  • My honest opinion? Because the gov makes too much $ off of oil. Think about it, they've been talking since the 70's about getting off oil. It's the same thing with tabacco. They know it causes lung cancer, stillbirth, low birth weight, SIDS, miscarriage, etc but yet cigarrettes are still around because they make a ton of $ off of it.

  • Oil is the power they have this movie "Who killed the electric car? This movie was all about how one the big top four auto makers it was General Motors in California was forced to make an Electric car and when all was said and done they only made 100 of them they built a battery for this car and the chief investor in said battery was an oil company. After a while they collected the cars and the customers who had them offered a little over a million dollars to by the cars GM said no loaded them onto a flat bed and later destroyed them. one still exists today in a car museum in California the movie is very good and gives good insight into why they have and will not find another fuel.

  • Because they are making big $$ doing one thing and they don't want anyone else in on their turf....

So their high paid lobbyists make sure it doesn't happen

  • Because no matter how they dress it up, you have to use energy for everything. The "green" movement isn't about the planet; it is about the green dollar - period! Luckily, we recognize the Al Gore's out there and are smart enough to say "no thank you". I don't have a problem with being a good steward of the planet, but I do have a problem being forced to use specific products while only a select group of people laugh at me all the way to the bank. I'm also for free enterprise and a free market. That should make me a free consumer being able to choose which product I want to buy and not forced to have only one choice. Green - right. Ask Gore how green he is, but we have to buy HIS carbon credits.

  • Because...

    1. The NIMBY's don't want it (ie: wind mills, recycling or "green" centers, nuclear power plants, etc.)
    2. The environmentalists have created so many regulations and red tape that they're virtually impossible to work around!
    3. It costs too much, and consumes too many resources, with little positive return on a measurable scale (ie: the new Volt).
    4. Converting manufacturing systems that operate on petroleum based products and electricity would be too costly and that cost would be passed on to the consumer, making the product virtually impossible to afford, resulting in less demand, and business failure.

  • No viable source has been developed to replace oil.

Answer by Carpy at 10:54 AM on Jul. 29, 2010

  • It's freaking EXPENSIVE and they know it. Obama keeps telling us the same thing" Energy prices will necessarily go up with my plan" ??????? While we are making moves to incorporate these green methods, we don't have the ability to build or fund many of these ventures. Total green will not happen in our or our childrens lives.
