  • No, it does not. There are things that you can do to prevent tearing too.

  • I had a huge episiotomy with my first and no tearing with either of the other two babies.

  • No. Each pregnancy/birth is a different, unique experience. There are some (very few) things that might happen every time because of the way your body is (some women don't produce the right hormone mix to start labor on their own, some have bad migraines during every pregnancy, etc.), but for the most part, you can't count on any past experiences to tell you how future ones will be. :)

  • No. I didn't tear with my first, but the doctor chose to do an episiotomy. I never tore or had one done with my 4 following babies.

  • No!!
It's more about how you labor & push than anything else.

I did tear with my first (smaller) baby pretty badly. :-(

With my next, I learned how to have a better birth to avoid tearing. It worked! (My baby was bigger: 10-pounds, too!)

    Best wishes!
