Taking donated items, would it be considered stealing?

In the town we use to live in there was a thrift store there and tons of ppl donated to them. We went a few times after someone donated things from their yard sale or whatever and would take the box home after they had left it in front of the doors. There was no sigh saying not to touch or take items. Or no trespassing signs of any kind. So would you consider this stealing? If we had anything to donate we always took it up there to!

  • NO. If they're donating them anyway to get rid of them, than how is it stealing? People did it all the time to our junk we'd put on the curb and we didn't give a rat's ass. Less junk for us to get rid of! Woo!

  • You had to ask? Isn't it obvious? You knew already, didn't you and then you still told us? Wow.....just wow. Are there any honest people left in the world? How depressing.

  • The donations at thrift shops ARE sold, youknow. You did steal somehing that could have earned money for the thrift shop. They needed the donations and the money from the sales....that IS stealing.

  • Pfft! most of the employees throw crap like that away anyway or they take it home themselves. Trust me. I knew someone who worked for Goodwill and she would always be taking home crap that Goodwill couldn't or wouldn't take. So it's not stealing unless it's part of the store's inventory.
