What would you take to a neighborhood hog roast as a passing dish?

For all I know it is completely outside and without electricity.

  • You could always go with a pasta salad. Skip the mayo and use vinaigrette or italian dressing. Get some pretty looking pasta (tri color, bow tie etc)cook it let it drain and cool. Chop up some onion, garlic, cucumber, olives, black beans, artichoke hearts, celery, carrots or add any other kind of veggie you like toss with the dressing and add any spices you want. Can last outside without fear of getting anyone sick. Also you can bring a side of grated parmesan cheese for anyone that wants to add that. If you are feeling risky you can add some cheese and pepperoni or salami to it also.

You must be down south, huh? I lived down south a long time ago but we called it a "Pig Pickin' " and they served "barbecue" on buns.and I would make a pasta salad or a green salad with veggies. My attempt at bringing healthy food to offset the pig.

  • I'd bring a fresh fruit salad, or a watermelon cut up into slices - don't have to worry about whether it's staying cold enough like with most other salads.
