what are good chapter books to read to an 8 year old and a 7 year old?

i am going to start reading to my kids before bed each night. i used to do this but stopped about a year ago. i want to start it up again and read each kid their own book, one or two chapters each night. what would be some good books that we could try. and i want things that are more advanced than what the kids can read to themselves
