Teething 14 month old

Is it normal for a 14 month old baby that is teething to be sleeping a lot?? usually he doesn't sleep when he has teething pain... but he has been irritable the past two days... barely eat anything... will drink fluids though... doesn't really want to be played with... looks to be in pain... feeling hot to the touch...etc... but last night he slept from 9pm-8:30 am... went back to bed at 10:30am slept until 2pm... was up until 4pm and still is sleeping until 6:30pm... and yesterday he slept from 9pm-11am and took at nap from 2pm-6pm and went back to bed at 9pm

  • The symptoms most likely to trouble a Teething baby include:

    • Drooling (which can lead to a facial rash)
    • Gum swelling and sensitivity
    • Irritability or fussiness
    • Biting behavior
    • Refusing food
    • Sleep problems

I know from experience my daughter slept a lot through some of hers but she was up and fussy for others.

  • You said hot to the touch..... Should you run this by your pediatrician in case it is something else plus teething? Just wondering........

  • i wouldnt worry too much about him feeling hot. take his temp and if its just a low grade temp then dont worry most docs say that a fever is good and they only treat the symptoms to make them more comfortable. thats what i have been told in the past by more than one doc even when my dd was at 104 fever. but it does sound alot like teething. if he is really miserable call the doc about giving him possibly some pain medication like baby tylenol. they can tell you the correct dosage and also if he should be seen.

  • sometimes they sleep a lot, sometimes they have trouble sleeping. As long as it isnt interfering with his schedule, it should be ok. Make sure you periodically take his temperature so you can see if he is running a fever.
