What exactly is RED meat?

I love all meat but they say to stay away from red meat can someone be more specific thanks!

  • Red meat is meat that comes from mammals. It's red in color before it's cooked. Pork IS red meat...the whole "pork, the other white meat" is a slogan from the Pork Council trying to sell more pork. The only real reason it was ever considered white meat is because the pork council decided back in the 80s that the term "red meat" had a bad stigma attached to it, and it was affecting sales. So they tried to cash in on the health food craze and it worked, sales went up.

  • red meats are high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease.

  • above is almost correct..... Pork is the other white meat! Pork and Chicken are the white meats and are said to be a little better for you!

  • Pork, duck, goose are NOT red meat. Duck and goose are poultry. The rest are. And not all red meat is really bad for you. Lamb (or mutton) and deer (or venison) are a lot better for you than cow (beef) is. Pork is harder for the body to digest though.
