white flecks in finger nails

for many years now i have had small white flecks on my finger nails .. they do eventually grow out .. ive done some research on the web which isnt really much help as i think each reply has given me a different answer .. these answers have ranged from slight trauma to the nail bed to zinc, calcium and potassium defficencies besides other crazy answers lol
what do you ladies think?

  • Okay, here's what I found, San:

    Most articles I've read say that it's called leukonychia. The commonest cause of the nail disorder, called Leukonychia is the injury to the base of the nail where the nail is formed. This area is referred to as the matrix region. A white spotting may appear on the nails similar to a streaking effect. Other probable causes for this discoloration are arsenic poisoning, heart disease, renal failure, pneumonia, ill health, vitamin deficiency or hypoalbuminemia.

  • actually ive looked that up in the health magazines it is a zinc/calcium deficiency

  • I don't know if this is the truth...but, I always heard it was from lack of milk...dunno though

    take a daily multi vitamin, which would be good for you anyways since you're TTC

  • yeah lots of different answers .. i justdont no which one 2 go with .. my nails are super strong and dont chip and rarely break
