driving licenses

im in the uk and my dh is full of questions lol
he wants to know ..
if you pass your driving test in an automatic car are you allowed to drive a manual car?
i know lots of your cars are automatic anyway but does this apply or not?

  • I never thought about that one, San. Odd that you can't drive manual if you pass in an automatic. It's definitely not the same out here!

  • I don't see why not. I don't think there is a special license just for driving a manual.

  • Yep, ours is a Drivers License...which means you can drive any type of car. You need a separate Endorsement on your license for operating a motorcycle or a commercial vehicle.

  • Yeah, there are no special classifications for manual vs automatic... A car is a car.

  • you are allowed to drive an manual car even if you pass your test in an automatic one?
    when we take our test in a manual car we can drive both .. however if we pass in an automatic we CANNOT drive a manual car without taking another test

  • our rules are that way cus we see it that if u pass in an automatic u have no idea on gears and clutch control etc
