Can the hormones in an IUD cause a false negative pregnacy test?

I've had an IUD since 10/07 and have had mostly normal cycles since then....but have not had a period in almost 2 months now....Just wondering if its the hormones causing the negative or if it's just the IUD finally kicking into the no period gear

  • I wouldn't think so. Other wise how would you know if you accidentally got pregnant while on it? Maybe call your doc and ask on Monday morning, just to make sure. Unless someone else on here can answer! Sorry I can't be more help, I've never had an IUD.

  • I had the MIrena IUD and no the hormones will not cause a false neg on a hpt. they won't cause a false pos. either. Only med like clomid for infertility and such or a very recent miscarriage (like in the last 2 weeks) would give you a falsy. I did however get preg on the IUD! the baby is due next month!

  • Sometimes the IUD can stop your period. But I would call your doctor Monday so they can rule out pregnancy because an IUD can cause a late term miscarriage.

  • No because the HPT only dectects a hormone found when your pregnant....called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)
