Anybody know how to file a complaint against RiteAid?

My DH is on a very specific medication. His doctor called it in to the pharmacy at RA on Thursday, but when he went in to pick it up they said he couldn't get it til Monday because the insurance wouldn't cover it... BUT, we pay cash, we don't have insurance - so that was BS. When he told them that they said they didn't have it but could get it for Monday (today). He cut his pills and made what he had last til today, but going off his meds can kill him, will land him in the ER - not a good thing! He went down to RA to pick up his meds today and they told him his $35 Rx would run $108... He said he didn't have that much today but needed meds, so he asked them to only fill half. Then left him sit for 35mins and then came out and said "Sorry, we don't have these, we can have them for you on Thursday" - Now he's stuck going to the ER and hoping they can help him there because w/o this he's in real trouble!

  • Now, tomorrow he can go out to his Dr and have them call his Rx in to another Pharm. But the point is, what if he couldn't go to the ER? What if he didn't have a way to make them stretch til today? This really could have killed him... Is there at least a way to report this to their "head office" or something to try and stop this kind of thing from happening in the future...

  • Have you looked at their website to see if they have contact us or something? If the meds were that important to his well being, I don't know why you didn't go to a different pharmacy in the beginning instead of trying to wait for them to fill it.

  • Right on their website is a number to call to tell them about your experience with a store etc.

  • I looked on the website. And there are SOME phone numbers, but it all says "Customer Service" which IME is very different from any kind of complaint line...

We wanted to go to another Pharm, but they were the only ones in the area that said they had them in the first place. They are "newer" and until now he has been able to simply get them through his doctor, but RiteAid said they now carried them, which was why he went there. We have since been calling around and found another Pharm that stated they could order them for him, but that could take up to 2 weeks... So he is going to have to get them through is doctor until then (the doctor is over an hour away and charges twice as much)...

  • My son takes several meds a day. This is why I get a refill at least a week, usually more, before he runs out of meds. There are times when they just simply ran out due to other customers getting it first. When it was a med he needed ASAP and the pharmacy I had it called into didn't have it, they actually transferred it to another pharmacy themselves (and it was a different company). I just asked nicely what we could do and they came up with this solution.

  • That's what we are trying to figure out to do... But we don't know how to get that information and the people at RiteAid won't do anything... They just want to give us a 20% store coupon to make up for the mistake.

  • layh - We can't do that with his med. The doctor will only give him enough to last until his next apt because of laws around these types of meds. I wish we could get them before he runs out, but they won't allow him...
