What to do for constipation in a 5 month old.

Her Dr. just put her on formula with rice cereal and she is really having a hard time. When she has a bowel movement she has small amounts of blood with it, and she will turn red and cry trying to have the bowel movement!

  • That's not good. I would call the pediatrician. They probably have some kind of baby stool softener that would be safe. Were you breast-feeding beforehand?

  • Cut right back. What you're giving ehr is way too much and probably too soon for ehr to cope with. If you aren't happy to leave her longer before weaning then please feed ehr this stuff less often and far more dilute. Poor baby.

  • My doctor told me to stop the cereal if that happens. They said to switch back to just formula. I tried baby food with my son and he did well with that versus cereal. Also he does better with the oatmeal than the rice cereal. There is just so much iron in the cereal that it hurts their little tummies. :(
