  • Nope. We have a huge yard (big enough to pull at least 2 fifth-wheel trailers into it and then some) and if she can't get enough exercise running around it... LOL.

  • Depends on how big the yard is.

  • No. Only if they are cooped up in a small place or a house all day.

  • It is good for the dog and for you to get out and walk at least once everyday. And don't forget the "doggie poop bags".

  • Yes. It'd be good exercise for you and the dog can protect you.

  • I think it is best for the dog to have frequent walks if not daily- for one thing it would get boring smelling and looking at the same yard everyday when there is so much else out there to see and sniff if you are a dog. Also, the walking helps them poop- in nature, dogs eat, then walk a ways and do their business. If you just have the dog play in the yard it is good to go out and throw the ball or do something to play with them and give them some attention.

  • *I* think it's important, but whether other people do or not depends on their situation. We walk our dog on a leash every day even though we have several acres for her to run around on so she doesn't lapse in her training. We like to take our dog to public places (walking trails, camping, parks, outdoor festivals, hiking, etc.) where she has to be on a leash. If I just let her have the run of the yard all the time she would forget how to act when she needs to be leashed.

  • as long as the dogs playing out in the yard and not just laying around in the yard i see no problem with not walking the dog every day

  • No. We have a german shorthaired pointer who is 6 and does not get walked every day. He is a well mannered, well behaved, non-aggressive, lovable dog who is great with the kids and we've never had any issues with him. When he was puppy and for the first few years we walked him lots more because he needed it and because we had more time. He has his yard to play in and we take him out there every day with the kids and he's fine!

Alot of times it depends on the breed and there temperament. Every dog is different just like every kid is different! What works for some doesn't work for others and vice versa. As a dog owner, you have to recognize your dog's needs and do what is best for them.
