what kind of milk do you give your child?

My 3 year old drinks cow's milk. I usually get fat free & we both drink it. My DH got some rice milk & it says not to give to children under 5 without asking a Dr first. Anyone know why?

  • Not sure, but when my family was on a casein free diet my little ones drank rice milk with no problems. We went back to regular dairy and drink skim cow's milk.

  • I'm not sure why it would say that? Maybe a potential food allergy?

My children drink the 2% cow's milk as given by WIC.

I drink the Lactaid because I'm lactose intolerant but I also drink 2%.

  • Our pediatrician said whole milk until age 2, then 2% after that. He said NO ONE over age 2 needs whole milk. I'm not sure I totally agree with that NO ONE part. But, we all drink 2% anyway.

  • We always bought fat free- now that my son is in college, he buys whole milk. He actually said to me, "mom where was this milk, all of my life?"

My daughter, husband and i really do not drink milk.
