How do you prime the pump for your well water?

Our well ran dry and now its rained a lot but dh had turned the pump off until it rained so it wouldnt waste the electricity. Now we have to primp the pump and don't know how. Anyone familiar with this?

  • If it's a submersible pump you should be able to turn switch back on and it should work. If it's a jet pump then there's a foot valve at the end of the pipe that holds the water in. If the foot valve isn't working call someone, it probably needs to be replaced. My DH says that'll be $100. LOL

  • We recently had this happen but we had an old motorized jack pump. We ended up needing a whole new well. Two weeks and $10,000 later we had a new well.
