Water instead of Oil to "fry an egg"?

Has anyone ever tried water in their pan instead of Oil to "fry" their eggs??

I loved Fried eggs, and so does my dd.. we love them as a fast sandwhich.. But oil is so bad for you.

So does anyone boil their egg instead (out of shell). Any tricks to it?

  • I don't see why you couldn't just drop the egg into a pan of boiling water. Just try it. If it doesn't work, you will have wasted about, what, 15 cents? Good luck! :)

  • I use the grease from the bacon/ham/sausage or scrapple that I cooked first. I do drain just about all of it out 1st, then fry or scramble my egg depending on my mood.

I hate the way Oil makes the egg taste. If I am cooking just an egg with no meat first, then I use a really little bit of butter and a NON-stick pan

  • Just a little bit of butter makes them yummy. Actually better for you than oil.

  • And oil is not bad for you...you actually need oil to aid in digestion. Use Olive.

  • Poached eggs are good.

Someone mentioned scapple-I remember eating that when I was in Pennsylvania. The locals loved it and I couldn't stomach it! even after putting maple syrup on it!
