  • WHO ?

  • @ gertie41, she is referring to Queen Vashti in the book of Esther.

It does not say anything about her dancing naked but to display her beauty. The way the Queen dressed and displayed herself is the beauty he was looking for.

  • You have to remember that Jewish texts are a bit more profound than what most people think. For example, where in the book of Esther does it say Vashti was requested to come naked? It doesn't say that. It says that the king requested Vashti's presence adorned with the royal crown to show off her beauty. But the text never claims that she had to appear naked. However, that is the generally accepted idea. And this interpretation comes from studious rabbis. Anyone reading the actual text wouldn't even think she had to appear naked. This shows how we cannot go around interpreting text without proper knowledge of even the language. Unbelievable misinterpretations have come from simple mistranslations.

  • Now, Vashti has been wrongfully embraced as a feminist heroine, when in fact she was pretty evil. Here are two great articles on Vashti and how she's not as pure and heroic as some people put her. Her refusal to the king had actually nothing to do with her sense of modesty because she had none.

    The Villainy of Vashti

    The Tail of Vashti

Again, example of how we cannot go around assuming what certain texts mean without proper knowledge and study.
