  • The 'sex talk' takes place over their lifetime. My best advice is to answer their questions simply and directly. They'll let you know when they're ready for various topics. Just remember the old story: Johnny asked him mom where he came from and she launched into the 'sex talk'. When she finished, she asked if he had any questions. He said, Bobby says he came from Chicago.

  • It's not a talk - it's an 18 year long discussion.
By the time a girl is 7 or 8, she needs to know the basics of what happens when she enters puberty. The details of sex can wait but our society bombards girls with "you are a sex kitten" images starting in preschool. All questions should be answered honestly - simplified for age if necessary - but honestly.
