my boyfriends dad was just told that he had hepititus c, my 2 kids are always at his house, does anybody know about this disease? please help, if my kids got this I would be devistated.

  • It can only be transfered by blood. Like by sharing drug needles, unsterilized tattoo equipment or body piercing equipment, blood transfusion(if not screen properly), transmission from mother to newborn, or sexual contact(which is less common). I think your kids should be just fine but I don't think it would hurt to let your boyfriend know that you are concerned about the kids contracting it.

  • on top of what the PP said, some basics include that there isn't a vaccine for Hep C (there are for other strains, but not C) and that it attacks the liver.

  • I have a friend who has it & she has kids & they are just fine. as long as you are careful with blood (for example like a cut or open wound) then its pretty hard to transmit it. My friend got from a blood transfusion yrs ago. Also my ex father in law has it. None of us got it ever & we hung around him a lot. (he got it from shooting drugs back in the 70's)
