Help Me Pick My Next Book... (Pagan Books)

I'm placing an order to Amazon today or tomorrow & want to get a new book... I've narrowed it down to 4, but can't pick just one...

Help me pick! Here's the choices...

1. Grandmother Moon by Zsuzsanna E. Budapest
2. The Goddess Is in the Details by Deborah Blake
3. Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler
4. The Spiral Dance by Starhawk

I've also been looking at these two, but I don't know if I wanna go this way or not...

1. Jesus and the Lost Goddess: The Secret Teachings of the Original Christians
by Timothy Freke

2. Embracing Jesus and the Goddess: A Radical Call for Spiritual Sanity
by Carl McColman

What do you ladies think? Which one would you buy next? I plan to read them all eventually, but I just can't pick... HELP!

  • I read good reviews on The Goddess is in the Details. I haven't gotten any new books in a year....but I do enjoy reading the Llewellyn catalog LOL.... My favorite author is Ellen Dugan... she's so down to earth and funny....

  • I've read the one by Starhawk and the one by Alder and I don't own either one. I like Z but I hadn't heard of that one. The rest I know nothing about.

The one by Alder is more of a historical snapshot on the state of Paganism when she wrote it. I found it to be an excellent reference book. Starhawk's book, I regret to say it no matter how much I love her works, always has shoddy history. If she would just set it out there as mythology, it would be more honest. Don't know if that helps, but those are my thoughts.

  • I need to get the one by Adler... I have heard wonderful things about it.
The rest, I don't know anything about... off to hunt now!

  • I haven't read The Goddess Is in the Details or Embracing Jesus and the Goddess yet, so if it were me I'd go with one of those.

  • Oh... #1!! I have a wonderful book by Budapest called Summoning the Fates. I am not familiar with the one you list, but I love her work that I know and the moon thing is very much in line with my spiritual path.
