Newborn has weird eating habit...

I guess it isn;t so much weird, but as of today my daughter is 1 week old and she eats every 2 1/2-3 hours. However when she does cry for a bottle she will only eat 1/2oz and then falls back to sleep. I have tried moving the nipple around, rubbing her cheek, and talking to her, but nothing seems to help. I'm worried she isn't eating enough. Any suggestions??? It seems like only at night and in the early morning she will eat 1 or 2 oz. Idk what to do.

  • Take her diaper off and expose her bottom. The cool air will arouse her out of her slumber. Feed her bottomless if you have to,just put a towel on your lap.

  • I guess feed every hour on the hour then until she grows out of it. Be sure to mention this to the doc if it persists.

  • She might just not be very hungry. Is she getting at least 24 ounces per day? If so, no worries. If you don't think she's getting enough, stripping her down can work, so can washing her face with a cool washcloth.

  • When my youngest was new, I was told to strip her down so she will awaken and eat more. She tiny though.
    Congratulations on your new baby!

  • Maybe she's full. At different times of the day our stomachs may be more full then others. If she's gaining weight and progressing don't worry so much. If she's not progressing then talk with your doctor.

  • My MIL said that my husband slept for 3 days straight without eating when he was born. I think that's weird. I'd just keep trying to feed her. Babies are sleepy a lot when they are born and sometimes need a little encouragement to eat. I always tried tickling their feet or their sides, or changing their diaper or clothes in addition to what you are already doing.

  • I undressed my kids for feeding times when they were newborns. Or I would keep a cool wet washcloth next to me and wipe their face with it when they just wouldn't wake up to finish eating. I don't know how much they ate, they were breastfed.

  • I don't understand the issue, though i breastfed on demand. I never woke my daughter to eat; she definitely let me know when she was hungry.
