What would be the best reward for going potty in the "big girl potty?"

My 3yr old daughter is having a really hard time grasping that it's bad to pee in her panties and good to use the big girl potty. People tell me to just do positive reinforcement but that doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

  • Please don't use food. Food rewards have been linked to over eating and obesity. Please don't use food.

try a favorite TV show, outside activity, or new toy.

  • M&Ms. You don't want anything big, because once she gets it she'll be going 20x a day in the begining. We did M&Ms for the first few days.

  • We have tried new sandals, she loves shoes, tie dye panties, games with her daddy and staying up a little later at night, within reason ofcourse. Nothing has gotten it stamped in there yet and we have been trying for some time now. I have started refusing diapers or pull-ups but she still just goes like there is nothing wrong with it :(

  • Make sure she is truly ready. You mention that she has a hard time grasping the idea. Waiting a little longer might be helpful. GL!

  • When my DD went in the potty she got a sticker for her chart and a few m&m's. A small treat is NOT going to lead to overeating and obesity. That's absurd.

  • A party. Dress up, have cupcakes and tea and dance and sing. :)

  • We rewarded our dd with special big girl panties. We bought her princess, dora, and strawberry shortcake ones. We also explained to her that princess, dora, and strawberry shortcake do not like to be peed or pooped on. She only has accidents(dribbles) once in a while.
