Master Bathroom

Does a "master bathroom" have to consist of a shower and bathtub? Why I'm asking is we just bought a house with a small master, and I was thinking of taking the shower/bath tub combo and putting a large shower with no bath.

  • Phew!!! I thought I saw on House Hunters or something that the Master Bath wasn't considered a "master bath" because there was NO bath!

  • The minimum criteria for a "full bath" consists of a shower stall or shower/tub combo, sink and toilet. A half bath would not contain a shower and/or tub combo--just a sink and toilet.

  • Oh, and a "Master Bath" means it belongs exclusively to or is an extension off the master bedroom--it's not shared by others.

  • Our master only has a shower. We redid our master and if there had been a bath, we probably would have taken it out and made a large shower anyway. I feel like one bathtub in the house is enough. I can't even remember the last time I took a bath.
