  • At my bank you have to close the account, you can't take anyone off of the account.

  • At my (now former) bank, neither of us could do it. We had to let the account go to zero & stay that way for 6 mo & then they closed it. We both had to open new ones.

  • Are you the main acount holder? If so then no, but if he is you can just take your name off of his!

  • To my knowledge it depends on the place you have your account. One place REQUIRED him to be there in my case and another place actually made me close my existing joint account and open a new one. I could not just take him off at either place!

  • If you just have the name taken off, yes. If you close the account, no.

  • I'd call the bank, it will vary from bank to bank and state to state. I would guess that you could remove yourself without him, but you never know.

  • I think it's pretty standard that you have to close the account.
