Should a man teach WOMENS self defense??

My husband has no experience teaching, or about womens self defense, he was in beginners ji-jitsu, but he has never done this before. When my sister asked him to teach her how to lift weights he said no, but he is all about teaching this class, with another INexperienced male. I told him I wasnt comfortable. I am 8 months pregnant, am I just being emotional??

  • Should a man teach women self defense? Absolutely
Should YOUR man teach women self defense? Absolutely not. Not because he's a man, not because your worried about him as a man being around women (because that's just silly jealousy speaking)...but because he is not qualified to do it. Women take these classes and then they sometimes end up staking their lives on what they've learned. If he is not qualified, he has NO business doing it...and you need to do whatever you can to prevent it.

  • I have no problem with a man teaching it, but I DO have a problem with an inexperienced person teaching it.

  • I don't think they should be teaching a class on self defense unless they have the experience behind them.

  • sounds like whether or not he is a man, he's not qualified to be teaching the class period. I, personally, wouldn't have a problem with a man teaching me a self defense class, but I have never been attacked or really feared a man before...I imagine a lot of the women in these classes have had something happen to them to where they feel the need to be there...a rape, a robbery, an assault...god only knows what they've been through. I would want to consider how they would feel if your husband was "practicing" with them and all those bad memories came coming back...could they learn what they needed to?

  • I agree that they need to be experienced, but I have no problem with a man teaching me anything to do with self defense. Who better to tell a woman how to hurt a man than a man?

  • I have no problem with a man teaching self defense...seriously, how many attacks on women are made by other women? I want to learn how to kick a man's butt..not a womans...I can do that! lol Honestly, as long as they are experienced I see no problem with it.
