  • It's normal unless he is a newborn.

  • It can. When that happened with my second child the doc said to use rubbing alcoholic on a q-tip with every diaper change. It worked and the thing fell off a few days later. If it smells bad or had a green discharge take him to the doctor right away, otherwise he should be fine.

  • Is it moist or dry? Is it bleeding from the base or top? If it's dry, it could be ready to fall off. If it's still real moist, you might need to clean around the base (closest to the baby's skin) with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. PM me if you'd like- I'm an nicu nurse.

  • I would call your doctor and ask. They may want to see your baby just to make sure everything is alright.

  • This happened with my last baby. His doc said it is normal to have a little blood. Try to dry it out a little if it's moist. No water on the area, alcohol swab and it should fall off soon!
