Do you kiss or hug your children's friends?

My dd (age 7) has a girl friend over for a sleepover.
I always kiss and hug my kids when I tuck them in.
Should I hug her friend too?
I usually just say good night, but I feel bad because she's probably used to her mom tucking her in.

  • Amy, I would tuck her in but unless she already hugs or kisses you I wouldn't.

  • It depends on how close you are to the family if this would be acceptable or not. I'm friends with a couple of the Mom's that my kids hang with. We call each other regularly, email regularly. Make regular plans to hang out together etc. Hugging those kids, the kids of my friends, would be no big deal to me. However if it was anyone else's child I doubt that I would hug the child.

  • Right now my daughter's only friends are family, so I give them cheek kisses and hugs. :-) Nieces and my sister so it's okay.
I would just ask if she wants a cheek/forehead kiss or hug goodnight and give her one if she did, and not if she didn't.

  • I probably would just tuck her in unless she asked for a hug and kiss and if she did I would hug her, but only kiss her either on the cheeck or forhead not on the lips.

  • I sure do. Everyone gets a hug good night at my house. That's just how we do things.

  • I make it a policy to NEVER touch anyone else's children unless they are family. i prefer people do not touch my kids especially in a bed at someone elses' house.
