pray to IF they are faced with death while in th ARMED FORCES? It's just a question I have often thought about but never have been around an athiest, or a military personell who has been. I asked my husband but he said he was never in the service with an athiest. It's just a question.

We don't. If you want more info look up fox hole atheists. There have been many of us in the armed forces and many of them have faced the possibility of death.

I don't understand the question...
Is it YOUR impression that they DO pray to someone/thing?

Atheists don't pray and there are atheists in foxholes (literally and metaphorically speaking). My father went through WWII without praying but his catholic gunner put all their lives in jeopardy several times when instead of obeying my father's orders to fire, he got out his beads and starting praying. There is a time and a place people and that wasn't it.
