No Bashing Just An Honest Question, What or Who Do Athiests ?

pray to IF they are faced with death while in th ARMED FORCES? It's just a question I have often thought about but never have been around an athiest, or a military personell who has been. I asked my husband but he said he was never in the service with an athiest. It's just a question.

  • They don't pray.

If you do not believe in a deity. You do not pray to a deity.

Death is simply death. If you do not believe in God, nor heaven or hell, or an afterlife. Death is death. Nothing more nothing less. Nothing to pray about really. There is no need for redemption, there is no fear of hell or a bad afterlife due to their actions during life, there is no need to make peace with a deity..etc ... Only people who believe in those things, would feel the need to pray in the face of death.

  • They don't pray to anyone. Death or Not, Armed Forces or not... They have no reason to. It's just a secular service.

  • they don't pray. But i'm sure in times of death they feel sympathy or empathy for the lost ones and families/friends and keep them in their thoughts, wishing them well, being by their side etc. Basically the way anyone would react to this situation minus the religious part.

  • We don't. If you want more info look up fox hole atheists. There have been many of us in the armed forces and many of them have faced the possibility of death.

  • I don't understand the question...

Is it YOUR impression that they DO pray to someone/thing?

  • Atheists don't pray and there are atheists in foxholes (literally and metaphorically speaking).  My father went through WWII without praying but his catholic gunner put all their lives in jeopardy several times when instead of obeying my father's orders to fire, he got out his beads and starting praying.  There is a time and a place people and that wasn't it.
