  • I think breastfeeding just extends the amount of time before your first period comes back again, but it won't keep it away forever. I'm in the same boat, my period just started up again too, and it sucks. It was nice not having it for a while. :)

    Feel better mama!

  • I don't know why people think this... The only thing breast feeding does is give you a little extra time, but it doesn't stop your period... Some women will get it right away, others will be w/o for months, but bfing doesn't stop it from returning forever!

  • yep, sometimes you still get periods while breastfeeding. with my last baby, my period was every 28 days like clockwork even though I was breastfeeding. with this baby who is 8 weeks old today, I still got my period.

  • I didn't get my period until my kids were around 12 months. A good friend and her twin sister both got theirs back when their babies were around 3 months. It really just depends on your body. It isn't fun, but there really isn't much you can do about it.

  • For MOST women you do not get your period for about 6 months or so. I personally was still nursing at 15 months and mine returned then with both kids. There are also many other factors like cosleeping, pacifiers, returning to work and pumping, etc that effect how quickly your period returns or does not return.

  • Of course it comes back. You can try and keep it from coming back by not using any bottles or pacifiers and night nursing. Some moms do this and their periods still come back. Heavier women have more stored hormones and their periods may come back sooner. They can come back between 6 - 12 mo after the baby starts solids and isn't eating as often. Some women brestfeed 3 years or longer. Of course they normally have periods and can get pregnant.

  • :-/ breastfeeding doesn't STOP your period from coming (which is why a woman can be pregnant and still breastfeeding), just sometimes prolongs it. From what I had heard it usually comes after baby starts going longer between feedings (often after baby starts sleeping through the night, as was the case for me). Sucks, but atleast you had a little break from it!
