I agree with timeouts, although sometimes it's hard to keep my son there (he just turned 4)but with consistency it works. i use a kitchen timer with a beeper to mark how long he has to stay in timeout and then we talk about why he's there. at 3 he was old enough to at least give me a general answer as to what he did wrong that got him in timeout.
