Why is the mis conception a legal binding contract like marriage belongs to a church?

I mean really just because the church adapted it long after it was started by others does not make it property of the church. If that were true I would be a millionaire for how many things I came up with after some one else already has.

  • a little off topic, but i found out yesterday that the Puritans saw marriage as a legal, government sanctioned thing. they banned all religiosity from any marriage preformed and they werent allowed to have weddings in a church for several decades.

  • You mean because I had to get a license from a state, pay money to the state, and sign a bunch of state paperwork, it belongs to the state?

  • Why should it belong to the government?

Because it's a legally binding contract between two parties negotiating property and inheritance rights on current and future possessions, including the taxation of that property.
