What does "This post has been locked" mean in CafeMom groups?

I have noticed that some posts say this with a lock icon, however the puzzling part is that some of the posts already have several posts while others have zero. Can anyone explain this to me?

  • well, it happens for a couple of different reasons. Admins do this sometimes, when posting rules etc.

and sometimes either the group or cm does it because people are not behaving themselves.

  • Sometimes its just a notice so no replies are necessary, and sometimes its because things got nasty.

  • Like the PPs said, sometimes a post will be locked because it's an announcment or something like that... and sometimes it gets locked because people are being rude.

  • Yeah, it depends on who locks it. If it's an ongoing conversation that gets locked, you can bet drama or tos violations were the reasons. As an admin I will sometimes lock a post while we decide whether it needs be deleted or dealt with in another way. Also as someone mentioned above, sometimes a post is just informational and no replies are need so the admin will keep it locked. Still another reason could be to cause it to drop down the forum. Just like bumping a post will keep it up on the forum, a post that doesn't get any activity will fall behind the active posts.
