  • if you are going straight home (hospital to house) all you really need is a spit up rag and bottle and pacy. if you are going to visit then your diaper bag should have at all times
15 diaper (min), 2-3 outfits w/one spit up rag for each, 3-4 bottles with water in them to right line, formula (either in a dispenser or the can, wipes, changing pad or blanket to change on, a spare pacy, this may sound weird but extra pads and tampons(just in case), any meds that the baby may need, gas drops, make sure the bag and your purse is packed is the night before if you know in advance if not an hour before. a big help is to buy two of everything that goes in the diaper bag and to refill things asap.

  • You will be allowed to take home everything from the hospital. A lot of diapers, receiving blankets, etc... You really won't need anything but clothes to go home in.

  • If you are just going home I would just put in the going home outfit, a pacifier if you are planning on using one, and then an outfit, underthings, pads, breast pads for leakage, for you. That way you aren't lugging as many bags up there. :o)

Usually the hospital will let you take a nasal aspirator (boogie sucker lol), diapers, formula in bottles if you are FF, a hat, and sometimes a few other things.

If you are delivering during the winter you will want to bring blankets, mittens, and maybe a thicker hat for baby. I know my hospital will not let you use a snowsuit or one of those covers for the carseat when leaving the hospital just lots of blankets to keep baby warm.
